THE GOVERNMENT has said it hopes to give its decision on the A3 tunnel before the House breaks for the summer recess on July 25. Last week, South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt submitted a written parliamentary question to the Department of Transport which was responded to by Dr Stephen Ladyman.Dr Ladyman said: “We are continuing to consider the Inspector’s report into this scheme alongside the advice from the South East region on the priority it attaches to the improvement of the A3 at Hindhead within the indicative funding allocation for major transport schemes in the South East. We hope to make an announcement on the way forward for this scheme before the summer recess.”Jeremy now hopes the Government will live up to their word.He said: “As many people can probably remember, Dr Ladyman told me he was going to make a decision in late spring. ""Now it seems this has been pushed back to mid-summer. I really hope that this time the Government holds true to their promise and makes the announcement in the time frame they have set down. “People are fed up of waiting and now desperately want to see action.”
