Thank you very much for coming. We have had been to so many public consultations, meetings and demonstrations for Haslemere hospital. There was even a candle-lit vigil long before I was a parliamentary candidate. Standing here today for this march seems a bit like Groundhog Day. But you know we were right to fight every single one of those battles. Because - and this is the point I wish the PCT would understand - you can fight to save a hospital as many times as you like. But you can only close a hospital once.I am incredibly proud of Haslemere today. So many people, the wonderful performance of the Haslemere band, the young people here all show how much this hospital matters to our community.I did invite Jane Dale, Chief Executive of the Primary Care Trust, to come today, but she wrote to me and said her presence would not ""add value"". What would add value would be a consultation where the PCT actually listened, instead of this phoney democracy we have now. I doubt they will get one single letter supporting the removal of beds from Haslemere. But I doubt that will change their minds one jot.
