Local MP and Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, Jeremy Hunt and the Leader and Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council, joined together to outline the vision for improved broadband services in the local area last Friday. At a public meeting in Witley, Jeremy spoke of the challenges the UK faced with its current inadequate broadband coverage and how he hopes to have 100% broadband coverage and 90% superfast coverage by 2015. Surrey is striding ahead with their plans and aim to achieve 100% superfast coverage across the county by 2013. The meeting was also attended by a member of the Superfast Surrey Broadband team who was able to answer technical questions and hear firsthand the problems faced by residents from Witley and further afield in places like Brook and Frensham.
Jeremy said afterwards: “Improved broadband will make a world of difference to areas like South West Surrey. Meetings like this are a useful opportunity for us to uncover the areas with the most problems - particularly villages like Witley, Chiddingfold and Elstead. I have launched a survey on my website and it would be extremely useful to hear from everyone about the issues they face and what improved connectivity would mean for them”.
