Local MP Jeremy Hunt was on hand to open Godalming Museum’s latest exhibition on Thursday on the subject of Jack Phillips – a Godalming man who was the Chief Wireless Operator on the Titanic. He continued to send signals as the ship sank despite being told it was every man for himself. The exhibition celebrates the bravery of the 26 year old who sadly lost his life in the tragedy. Jeremy said: “It is an honour for Godalming to be associated with such a brave young man and the exhibition is a fitting tribute to his efforts particularly as 2012 marks the 100th anniversary year of the sinking of the Titanic. This is a fantastic exhibition to visit and I would urge everyone in Godalming to pop in and find out more about this remarkable young man”.
