Local MP Jeremy Hunt has spoken of his delight at the news that BT are to include Hindhead in the latest phase of their £2.5 billion fibre broadband roll-out. This investment across the South East will help create jobs and new businesses with high-speed fibre broadband being rolled out to another 2,500 homes and businesses in Surrey during 2013. It will take the total number for the whole of the county to around 325,000, of which around 260,000 already have access. Internet users with a fibre broadband connection can do much more online, all at the same time. A family can download a movie, watch a TV replay service, surf the net and play games online simultaneously. Jeremy has been at the forefront of pushing for improved broadband across the UK in his role as Secretary of State for Culture, Media, Olympics and Sport. In 2010 he outlined his ambition for 100% broadband coverage and 90% superfast broadband coverage in the UK by 2015 which will ensure Britain has the best broadband network in Europe. Jeremy said: “This is fantastic news for Hindhead and will mean people have access to fast and reliable broadband. Rural areas have long suffered from inadequate speeds and the difference this will make for businesses, families and the elderly in Hindhead - giving them consistent access to online services such as shopping, banking and communication - will be incredible”.
