The Government remains very concerned about all our dual nationals detained in Iran and is doing everything it can in each of their cases, including trying to secure access to them and ensure their welfare. This is particularly challenging because the Iranian Government does not recognise dual nationality and therefore does not accept the UK Government's request for consular access.
It would not be in the interests of any of our consular cases to give detailed accounts of the individual and confidential efforts made behind the scenes to secure their release. However, I can assure you that the Government has regularly raised all of our Iranian consular cases at the highest levels within the Iranian Government.
The Foreign Secretary has made it clear that no stone should be left unturned, and recently raised our consular cases on his trip to Iran. If you would like to read more about the Foreign Secretary's visit, you can read his statement here.
